ERBE AROMATICHE PANCALIERI
Cooperative
Pancalieri is known as the "Capital of
Mint" in Piedmont and as such is highly respected in this sector. The activities of
the Erbe Aromatiche Pancalieri cooperative started in 1985 and developed over the
following years in this agricultural environment. Over these years, the cooperative's work
was to add value to this important resource, and also helped to create a product image
based on conscientious workers who are committed to the propogating the high quality of
the mint - a quality based on the experience garnered over the centuries.
The cooperative comprises about 30 agricultural enterprises, not only from Pancalieri, but
from all the area typical of mint production in Piedmont.
The members of the cooperative are specialised in the cultivation of about 20 medicinal
plants of a number of different species in the form of essential oils and dried products. |
Pancalieri is a small but
very active centre of nearly 2000 inhabitants, approximately 30 km from Turin, bordering
on the province of Cuneo. Even though the village has long been in a mixed economy,
agriculture - with small and medium sized companies specialising in the cultivation of
medicinal plants and cereals - is still one of the principle income-sources for the local
population.
In this "herbal island", where peppermint has been cultivated for over a
century, the experts consider the essential oil to be the best in the world - for the
fineness of its scent and the pleasantness of its taste. |
